Colin finally succumbed to using gps to enhance his riding experience in Thailand but not without one or two hiccups.

Well I say ‘hiccups’ I am currently wondering if they are more long term show stoppers !

Earlier this week, Slash rode to Mae Moh & excitedly presented me with his gps unit and said there you are, here is the track. You see, although he has actually given in to looking at the screen of a gps, it seems he is having issues with the menu’s and the processes behind using the unit, let alone getting the track to appear on the internet…. He is looking for me to do all that for him. What have I started?

Despite riding this route earlier this week, he failed to record the track… finger trouble!

So today Art & I followed Slash from Miguels in Nong Hoi, out to Mae On, through the mountains and left onto the 11 near Mae Tha.

At Lampang I asked what his plan for lunch was & he said he had no intention of eating & it was up to Art & I to find somewhere.

After a stop for food we headed out to Mae Moh & into the area of the mine.

It would have been nice to see the mine, as an update from when I was there last time but Slash wanted to show us the Mae Kham reservoir & that was a really nice place to see.

We then had a discussion about what Slash had in mind to prepare the tracks he was recording for Unk & Auke. After hearing that I was expected to compile off road tracks with annotations & clarify on road tracks to be actually on-road, I started to realise the monster I had given life to.

We headed to the main road (1) and then took the north of Lampang detour which starts at the 1335 & joins up with the 1039.

But then I lost sight of the other 2 & ended up riding home alone after waiting for ages at the PTT & 7/11 where we stopped the last time we rode this part of the route.

Oh well, a nice ride & another 333 km’s under my belt.

Mae Moh – just for a slash

  1. GPS? Hmm, I see a paper map in his hands and you all got separated from each other. I feel so much better about my dismal record with technology now. Thank you!
Seriously, love the photos Ally! It looks like you had a great day.
